Legacy Series: What Do I Want to Leave Behind?

I had an idea, as I was falling asleep one night, to put together a sermon-like series on the things that have been on my mind most recently—the dominating thoughts of the past few months, really. I’ve entitled it “The Legacy Series”, for the moment, because I was really stirred by a talk that I’d had about legacy in a bible study—this was April of 2022. I’d known for some time of the importance of a man’s legacy, but I haven’t spent much time thinking concretely about my own legacy. So that is where I hope to go with this series.
I started this journey in a journal of mine (technically, I first wrote it down in the Notes app on my iPhone, but that’s besides the point). I’d tasked myself, for six weeks (which would prove to be a challenge that took just a little bit longer), to explore the ideas of Purpose, Plan, Partnership, Persistence (& Perseverance), Pride, and People by going into the God’s Word, the Bible, and finding stories and ideas that would speak into each of those points (ideally, Scripture would be the basis of those points rather than the other way around). The end goal, again, being “the discovery of the kind of legacy I’d like to leave behind”—and perhaps to help you discover yours. I’ll let you know now, though, that this might not be what you’re expecting.
As we go through this series, I pray that you would join me in exploring the legacy that you hope to leave behind. At the end of it, you may find that you've got a lot of work to do until then, or perhaps you're already living the life that you truly desire and simply want to look back at all that you've already accomplished. In either case, or any other case for that matter, I pray that this series would be a blessing to all who come across it, and that this series might just be exactly what someone out there needs to start making the impact that they desire to make.
An important reminder before you begin: This is a discovery more so than a creation or manifestation of legacy. God created each of us for a specific purpose, He knows what we're meant to leave behind; so if you gain nothing else from this series, remember that fact, and place your trust in God. And whether or not you believe in God, I think we could agree that we don't have control over the outcome—at least not total control—so remember the present when thinking about the future. With that being said, be blessed, seek wisdom, and enjoy.
